Hacks for Wellness

Welcome to Hacks4Wellness

Hacks4Wellness was created from a genuine passion for health, longevity, nutrition, exercise, and biohacking. As a woman in my forties, I’ve spent more than a decade exploring ways to improve my own health, from the fundamentals of nutrition, movement, and sleep to emerging research and new wellness technologies.

With a background in Public Health and certification as a Nutrition Coach, I combine what I’ve learned through education and research with my own real-world experiences and experiments.

Hacks4Wellness is where I share what I discover along the way, with one goal: to help make healthier living and longevity more practical, understandable, and achievable.

Sauna for Longevity: Why Heat Therapy May Help You Live Longer

For centuries, sauna bathing has been more than just a way to warm up — it’s been a ritual of relaxation, cleansing, and community. In Finland, where the sauna tradition runs deep, nearly every household has access to one, and sauna is considered as essential as food or water. Today, modern science is catching up with tradition. Researchers are discovering what Finns have known intuitively for generations: regular sauna use can be a powerful tool for health, recovery, and longevity. What the Science Says about Sauna Over the past decade, several large studies (many of them conducted in Finland) — have confirmed the health benefits of sauna. One of the most well-known studies followed over 2,000 middle-aged men for more than 20 years and found that frequent sauna...

PEMF Mats: The Biohacking Tool for Recovery and Longevity

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate and energize the body at the cellular level. These gentle pulses are designed to mimic the natural frequencies of the Earth, helping to restore balance, support healing, and improve recovery. Originally developed and researched in Europe, PEMF therapy has been used for decades to treat bone fractures, circulation issues, and chronic pain. Today, it’s becoming a popular biohacking tool for anyone interested in performance, recovery, and longevity. Why Biohackers are Turning to PEMF As biohackers, we’re always searching for ways to optimize recovery, energy, and overall well-being. PEMF mats fit perfectly into this philosophy. Forest Bathing: Nature’s Antidote for Stress and Overthinking

“When the mind is restless, the forest stills it.” In today's fast-paced, screen-heavy world, it's easy to forget one of the simplest (and most powerful) tools we have for calming the nervous system and restoring balance: nature. More specifically—forest bathing. Also known as Shinrin-yoku in Japan, forest bathing is not about exercise or hiking. It’s about slowing down, breathing deeply, and immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the forest. No phones. No step goals. Just you and nature. Forest bathing has become a staple in many biohackers' routines, thanks to its well-known benefits for both health and longevity. A Personal Reflection: How Nature Helped Me Heal I’ve always turned to nature during emotional storms—sorrow, grief, anxiety. After a painful breakup, when I truly felt at rock bottom, walking in...

Vagus nerve stimulation

Vagus Nerve Stimulation: The Biohack for Calm, Clarity & Better Sleep

When people think of optimizing their health, they often start with diet, movement, or supplements. But there’s a powerful system in your body that influences your mood, stress response, digestion, and even immune function. Despite this, most people have never even heard of it. It’s called the vagus nerve, and learning how to stimulate it can be a game-changer for your well-being. This can be done both naturally and through wearable devices. What Is the Vagus Nerve? The vagus nerve (Latin for “wandering”) is the longest cranial nerve in the body. It runs from the brainstem all the way down to your gut, touching your heart, lungs, digestive system, and more. It’s a core part of the parasympathetic nervous system, also know as your “rest and digest” state. When...

Bone Broth

Bone Broth for Healing and Longevity

Bone broth has been a staple in ancestral kitchens across cultures for centuries — and for good reason. People made nourishing broths with healing compounds by simmering bones, herbs, and vegetables for hours before protein powders and multivitamins flooded our shelves. Bone broth is currently experiencing a well-earned renaissance, not only in kitchens but also in functional medicine, wellness regimens, and biohacking communities. Rich in collagen, minerals, and amino acids, it promotes immunity, skin resilience, joint strength, gut health, and even better sleep. As someone who’s deeply invested in longevity and nourishment from the inside out, I make my own bone broth regularly. It’s simple, grounding, and one of the easiest ways to give your body deep, foundational support. What is Bone Broth? Bone broth is a nutrient-rich liquid...

Colostrum benefits

Colostrum: Nature’s First Superfood

As a biohacker, I’m always on the lookout for superfoods that can elevate my health. Colostrum is one of those rare finds. This nutrient-dense, first milk produced by mammals in the hours after birth has been revered across cultures for its powerful health benefits. Recently, colostrum has reemerged in the biohacking world as a powerful supplement for gut health, immunity, muscle repair, and more, thanks to its wealth of antibodies, growth factors, and immune-boosting nutrients. I’ve personally been using colostrum (in powder form) for around three years now, and it’s one of the supplements I feel truly great on. It helps me feel stronger, more resilient, and more grounded. Especially when it comes to digestion and immune function. But here’s the strange part: despite its incredible...

FODMAP diet

What is the FODMAP diet – and can it help your gut?

Updated May 2025 I first came across the FODMAP diet during my Nutrition Certification coursework. While I haven’t followed it myself, I’ve become increasingly curious about it—especially as I continue to explore how different foods affect digestion, inflammation, and overall wellness. It turns out that many people experience bloating, discomfort, or digestive distress after eating foods that are generally considered healthy. That’s where FODMAPs come in. If your gut has been giving you mixed signals—even after a "clean" meal—this may be something worth paying attention to. What Are FODMAPs? FODMAP stands for:Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides And Polyols In simpler terms, FODMAPs are short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. When they reach the large intestine, they ferment—producing gas and drawing water into the bowel. This can...

Metabolic Flexibility

Metabolic Flexibility: The Longevity Secret Most People Overlook

Why do some people thrive on keto while others crash without carbs? The answer may lie in something most people have never heard of: metabolic flexibility. For a long time, I thought the key to health was simply eating the “right foods.” But over the years, I’ve learned that it’s not just about what you eat—it’s about how your body processes it. That’s where metabolic flexibility comes in. What Is Metabolic Flexibility? In simple terms, metabolic flexibility is your body’s ability to efficiently switch between burning carbohydrates and fat for fuel, depending on what’s available. And of course, your metabolic type also plays a role here. If you haven’t read our deep dive on the three types and how they influence your diet, you can check out our...

health tests longevity

The Health Tests I Take Regularly (And What They’ve Taught Me)

Even though I consider myself healthy, I believe in taking a proactive approach to my well-being. That includes doing regular health tests to check my current status and see if my lifestyle or nutrition needs adjusting to better support my body. These tests are part of my long-term health optimization and longevity plan. They help me understand how my body works, so I can give it what it needs to thrive, not just survive. Because it’s better to be foresightful than reactive. I’d rather know how I’m doing now than wait until something’s off and be told I should’ve acted sooner. Here’s a look at the health tests I do regularly and what they’ve revealed. These are by no means something you have to do to stay...

Hydrogen Water and Longevity – What’s the Hype About?

As a biohacker, you're always stumbling across new technologies, health gadgets, and health innovations. Lately, something new has caught my attention in this field. And that is hydrogen water. While I’m still just a few days into trying it myself, the potential benefits are definitely worth a closer look. So what is hydrogen water, and why are so many in the wellness world talking about it? What is Hydrogen Water? Hydrogen water is simply regular water that contains extra hydrogen molecules. These are the tiniest and lightest molecules in the universe. The added molecules are believed to act as powerful antioxidants which helps to reduce oxidative stress in the body. Oxidative stress is a big player in aging and age-related diseases, so anything that helps reduce it...
