Colostrum benefits

Colostrum: Nature’s First Superfood

As a biohacker, I’m always on the lookout for superfoods that can elevate my health. Colostrum is one of those rare finds. This nutrient-dense, first milk produced by mammals in the hours after birth has been revered across cultures for its powerful health benefits. Recently, colostrum has reemerged in the biohacking world as a powerful supplement for gut health, immunity, muscle repair, and more, thanks to its wealth of antibodies, growth factors, and immune-boosting nutrients.

I’ve personally been using colostrum (in powder form) for around three years now, and it’s one of the supplements I feel truly great on. It helps me feel stronger, more resilient, and more grounded. Especially when it comes to digestion and immune function. But here’s the strange part: despite its incredible benefits and natural origins, colostrum isn’t even legal to sell in stores in some countries. In Sweden, where I live, it’s not possible to buy unpasteurized milk in shops. However, you can buy it directly from a farmer if you find a farmer who is willing to sell colostrum. You can walk into a supermarket and buy food-like products made from synthetic chemicals, yet this ancestral healing substance is restricted. Isn’t that strange?

What is Colostrum?

Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals during the first 24 to 72 hours after giving birth. It’s thicker and richer than regular milk, packed with a unique blend of:

Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM): Antibodies that help protect against viruses, bacteria, and pathogens

Lactoferrin: An antimicrobial protein that supports immune defense

Growth Factors (IGF-1, IGF-2): Promote tissue regeneration, muscle repair, and gut lining healing

Proline-Rich Polypeptides (PRPs): Help modulate immune response and inflammation

Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and prebiotics

Colostrum was designed by nature to give newborns the best start in life. But the same bioactive compounds that support growth and immunity in babies can also benefit adults. Especially in our high-stress, toxin-heavy modern environment. That’s why it should be considered as one of the top longevity supplements.

Health Benefits of Colostrum

There are many health benefits of Colostrum. Just check the list below.

Immune System Support
Colostrum’s antibody content helps strengthen the immune system, making it more resilient to infections. It’s particularly helpful for those who get sick often or struggle with chronic inflammation.

Gut Health & Leaky Gut Repair

Thanks to its growth factors and PRPs, colostrum supports the regeneration of the intestinal lining. This is a crucial factor in healing leaky gut and improving nutrient absorption. Many people report reduced bloating, better digestion, and more regular bowel movements after supplementing.

Muscle Recovery & Performance

Athletes love colostrum for its ability to speed up recovery and enhance lean muscle mass. It can reduce exercise-induced inflammation and even increase endurance when used consistently.

Anti-Aging & Skin Health

Colostrum contains compounds that may support collagen production, reduce oxidative stress, and keep skin looking firmer and healthier over time. If you want more tips for skin health, check out our Skin Rejuvenation Guide.

Mood & Brain Health

Emerging research suggests that colostrum may influence the gut-brain axis, supporting mood balance, cognitive clarity, and stress resilience.

My Experience with Colostrum

I started taking colostrum about three years ago out of curiosity. This was after reading up on its role in gut repair and immune modulation. I opted for a high-quality powder sourced from grass-fed cows, and within weeks I noticed subtle yet steady changes: improved digestion, better recovery from workouts, and a general sense of “balance” in my body.

It became a staple in my longevity supplement stack. Especially during times of stress or travel, when my immune system needs extra support.

Pro tip: Start small. Colostrum can be powerful, especially if your gut is sensitive. I recommend starting with ½ tsp daily and gradually working your way up. Powder form tends to be more bioavailable than capsules.

Why You Can’t Buy It in Stores (But You Can Buy Ultra-Processed Junk)

Here’s the frustrating part: despite all these benefits, colostrum is not legally sold in physical stores in many countries, including Sweden. Regulations restrict it because it’s considered an animal-derived supplement not intended for general food use (even though it’s arguably one of the most natural substances on Earth).

Meanwhile, supermarket shelves are overflowing with ultra-processed products filled with preservatives, artificial colors, seed oils, and unrecognizable ingredients. These products are not only legal, they’re also often marketed to children and placed at eye-level.

It’s a strange contradiction: ancestral, nutrient-rich foods are sidelined, while modern, disease-promoting foods are normalized. This says a lot about where our food system’s priorities lie.

Fortunately, colostrum is still available online through trusted companies that specialize in longevity and health optimization — you just need to know where to look.

Final Thoughts

Colostrum might just be one of the most underrated supplements for total-body wellness. Especially if you’re focused on longevity, immune support, and gut repair. It’s ironic (and a little annoying) that such a pure and ancient food is restricted, while hyper-processed lab creations dominate the shelves.

But as always, we have a choice: to return to what nature intended, to listen to our bodies, and to seek out what truly supports our health.

If you’re ready to explore the benefits of colostrum, make sure you choose a high-quality source and start with your body’s basics first: movement, sleep, nourishment, and joy.
