NAD+: The Cellular Power Molecule Everyone’s Talking About

It seems like everywhere I turn in the longevity space, people are talking about NAD+. And this is for good reason. NAD+ is not just a buzzword. It plays a central role in our cellular health and maintaining its levels might be one of the keys to aging well and living longer.

What Is NAD+?

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell of the body. You can think of it as cellular currency. Your cells depend on it for energy production, DNA repair and to support sirtuins (the proteins that regulate aging and inflammation).

As we age, especially after 30, our NAD+ levels naturally decline. This decline is linked to many signs of aging like fatigue, metabolic dysfunction, inflammation and cognitive decline. This is the reason why I take NAD+ seriously in my own wellness routine. Every morning, I take NMN as part of my longevity supplement stack, along with other longevity supplements like resveratrol and spermidine. These ingredients work together to support healthy aging from the inside out.

Why Not Just Take NAD+ Directly?

Here’s the tricky part: NAD+ is a large molecule that doesn’t easily cross cell membranes. That’s why most NAD+ supplements don’t actually raise cellular NAD+ levels effectively. Especially in the oral form. However, precursors like NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) and NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) are converted into NAD+ inside the body and are currently the most effective and bioavailable ways to boost NAD+ levels.

So, when you supplement with NMN, it is converted into NAD+. This process happens inside your cells and it helps fueling mitochondria and DNA repair systems.

NAD+ and Healthy Aging: What Science Says

Scientific research over the past decade has shown a strong connection between declining NAD+ levels and many aspects of aging. This included reduced energy, impaired metabolism, inflammation and even cognitive decline.

Animal studies have demonstrated that boosting NAD+ through precursors like NMN can improve mitochondrial function, enhance insulin sensitivity and increase physical activity levels. Some early-stage human trials are now showing similar results, with participants experiencing improved muscle performance, better metabolic markers and increased endurance.

While more long-term human studies are still needed, the current research is very promising. The takeaway? Maintaining NAD+ levels may be a powerful strategy for supporting longevity and overall health.

Pure NMN

Boost Your NAD+ with Pure NMN from DoNotAge

If you’re curious about trying NMN to support your NAD+ levels, DoNotAge’s Pure NMN is one of the most trusted options on the market. It’s third-party tested, ultra-pure and used by researchers and biohackers worldwide (including me).

This is the exact NMN I include in my daily supplement stack together with resveratrol and spermidine. This is something I do for long-term energy, focus and cellular health. Pure NMN from DoNotAge is free from fillers and additives.

Should You Supplement?

If you’re over 40 (like me) and looking to support energy, metabolism and healthy aging, adding an NAD+ precursor like NMN to your daily stack could be worth exploring. That said, quality matters. Look for well-tested, high-purity NMN supplements and combine them with compounds like resveratrol since it may enhance NMN’s bioavailability by activating sirtuins.

And about NAD+ supplements. Yes, it’s true that most oral NAD+ products likely don’t reach the cells effectively. However, liposomal NAD+ and IV treatments may offer better absorption. I have a high-stability liposomal NAD+ product at home right now, but I’m still experimenting and looking into the latest research.

My Takeaway

There’s no magic pill for longevity but there are powerful tools we can add to our routine if we want to health optimize. Boosting NAD+ is one of them and it’s one of the most exciting frontiers in the world of aging science. I’ll keep sharing my own experience with NMN and the other supplements I’m using.
